How it Works

The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada serves to facilitate the relationship between charitable giving campaigns, the wireless industry, and almost 26 million wireless users in Canada. MGFC reviews the applications from Registered Charities wishing to deploy wireless technology in their communication and fundraising activities.

Once an application is approved, MGFC works to develops fundraising campaigns in conjunction with established mobile marketing firms and the Registered Charity. Our messaging platform is then used by wireless carriers through their short message service (SMS) centers. (SMS is a communications protocol that allows the exchange of brief text messages between mobile telephone devices.)

We know it is critical to have a trusted third party affirm the quality of Registered Charities using technology to solicit contributions. The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada works to ensure that this high level of trust is maintained at all times.

The wireless carriers pass 100% of the charitable funds they collect to MGFC. MGFC also remits 100% of the donation to the recipient Registered Charity within 30 days of receiving funds from the wireless carriers. MGFC charges back costs for reporting and messaging charges directly to supporting service providers on a post-donation basis.

Pricing for mobile giving campaigns is determined by you and your Application Service Provider (ASP) based on the package of services needed. Pricing may include a mobile giving campaign charge invoiced from MGFC to the ASP. ASPs may be selected based on their alignment with your charity’s vision, goals and budget. Each approved ASP has gone through a detailed application process and will comply with MGFC standards.

When a qualified non-profit organization (NPO) or registered charity (RC) has selected an approved ASP, two contractual agreements will be made; one between the NPO/RC and the ASP, and the other between the NPO and MGFC.
